The Wheels to Work process
If you qualify for support
If applicants are considered eligible for support, a co-ordinator will be in contact to arrange a meeting with you and your parent(s)/guardian(s) (where appropriate). The scheme will be explained in full at this meeting. The co-ordinator will then book you in for you CBT having gone through the terms of use for the scheme with your beforehand (and with your parents/guardians if under 18).
On successful completion of the CBT, a moped with lock plus a helmet, jacket, gloves and high-visibility vest will be provided to you. You will be taken through how to use the moped before being allowed to ride it. Having been issued with the moped, the scheme’s co-ordinator will meet up with you on a regular basis to discuss how the moped is being used. This meeting will also be a chance for the co-ordinator to discuss progress in employment/training; to undertake basic maintenance checks and to ensure scheme payments are up to date.
What about insurance?
All Wiltshire Wheels-to-Work mopeds will be fully taxed and insured by Community First.
What about servicing and break-down cover?
The mopeds will be serviced and safety checked by a number of approved motorcycle dealers across Wiltshire and Swindon. All servicing costs will be covered by the scheme but riders will be expected to take their moped to an allocated dealer. (A service and safety check is generally completed every 1800 miles.) Breakdown cover is provided by the scheme.
Can the mopeds be used other than just for work?
As well as using the moped to get to work or home-based training (up to 40 miles there and back), you will also be allowed to use your moped for leisure purposes.
What happens after the moped is given back?
Where applicable, each rider will be encouraged to take up a Credit Union savings plan whilst they are being supported by the scheme to help towards securing your own means of getting around having returned your moped to the scheme.
