What we do
Link up isolated minorities in Wiltshire.
Who?
People whose values, beliefs and lifestyle are consistently at
variance with the community they live in.
Why?
To create and strengthen communities of interest.
How?
We put people in touch with each other and provide opportunities
for creative and cultural activities.
Why?
People like to socialise with like minded people and need contact
with others who share the same values and beliefs. People gain support
from community groups and organisations that act in their interests and
promote their concerns and they use the voluntary sector to help them
to do these things.
In Wiltshire, minorities lack available appropriate services
and facilities, and lack access to appropriate support
groups. Also, certain people tend not to make use
of our services and tend not to form self help groups. Other issues for
minorities are the under-reporting of hate crime, the gaps in mutual understanding
and the need for a sense of identity, both shared and individual.
The Community Support project is supporting minority communities such
as people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, lesbian, gay, and
bisexual people, isolated rural women, gypsies and travellers and the
homeless.
We do this in 2 ways;
Direct work
- Capacity building
- Information gathering and distribution
- Enabling creative social activities
- Contact – putting people together
