Youth Group Support helps to develop youth clubs where none exist, and programmes of activities and essential support and training to volunteers and young leaders we help young people to access safe places for social and personal development.

We provide support to volunteers setting up a club from scratch, we assist in the red tape mountain faced by health and safety and governance, provide equipment, development programmes for young people, training and accreditation to young leaders and volunteers.

Generic Support includes:

1. Insurance – advice and support in gaining cover and support in developing risk assessments for activities.

2. Fundraising events & fundraising service – YAW organise and promote a number of activities that groups can use to generate funding for their group including sponsored walks, swims and other events. Through our fundraising service we also offer support with writing and submitting funding bids for groups.

3. Quarterly Newsletter – The quarterly Newsletter is mailed out and e-mailed to all affiliated groups and contains information on a variety of topics including: Recent news, fundraising, sharing of good practice, upcoming events and training.

4. Set-up Support – We are currently piloting a support plan which helps new groups in all aspects of set up, including putting in place policies & procedures, what insurance cover will be needed for the planned activities, how to plan a programme, the formation of a youth committee, fundraising and involving young people. We are currently applying for funding to extend the delivery of this service.Targeted support includes:

1) Activity equipment – YAW offer a range of equipment that can be hired by groups. This includes arts and craft equipment, team building kits, Wii equipment, sports equipment, mixed team games, problem solving kits and conservation tools, we work with groups providing individual training where required so that they can make best use of this equipment.

2) Activity Programme Support - help and guidance in building a positive and diverse activity programme for young people attending youth projects. Project ideas and practical support to make these projects happen.

3) Yearly Calendar of County and National Events and Sporting Competitions – Groups can access events and competition that lead to regional and National events through the CYP, such as the 100 mile canoe test, football competitions, single gender and arts projects.

4) An Accredited Young Leaders Training Programme – We are currently piloting a young leaders training programme which includes the residential OCN level 1 leadership course linked to the OCN level2 course offered through CYP. We are currently applying for funding to develop and extend this service so that we can support a new generation of young people to become Wiltshire's voluntary youth leaders.

5) Youth Leader Training Programme – We provide an accredited training program for Youth Leaders which include:

  • First Aid
  • Risk assessment and health & safety
  • Activity Programme Planning
  • Positive Behaviour Management
  • Child Protection
  • Sports Leadership
  • Arts Project Planning
