The Wiltshire all Vehicle Sharing Scheme (WAVeSS) is a not-for-profit minibus sharing scheme which brokers the 'downtime' of minibuses owned by local community organisations to other local groups needing access to affordable group transport. Based on a similar well-established project in Gloucestershire, the scheme works by taking care of all the business of making minibuses available to the community (such as legal issues, vehicle bookings, driver arrangements and billing) before passing a fee to vehicle lenders after each journey which can be put towards vehicle running and replacement costs. (*Estimates from national sources show that it can be as much as £4,500 per year to keep a minibus on the road - not including depreciation which is substantial given that a minibus loses around 20% of its value each year regardless of whether it is used or not.) For groups looking to borrow a minibus through the scheme, one can be made available to you for just a £5 administration fee + the WAVeSS vehicle lender's charge (currently between 75p - £1 per mile depending on vehicle location). In some cases, drivers can also be sourced for your group. WAVeSS is open to all types of community organisations and only costs either £25 or £36 a year to join depending on the nature of your group. |
