Macmillan Cancer Connections gets off to a great start!
I have been in my new role as Macmillan Community Development Coordinator for just over a month now and can honestly say I’m loving it.
I have been welcomed to the Macmillan family and have had the pleasure of attending my first steering group meeting. We have celebrated the role this week by holding an office bake off and we are now tasting the last few bakes and totting up the votes…More on that next time!
I have been using my first few weeks to meet with everyone from the steering group and hear about their vision for the project but moving forward I’d love to hear from you. If you would like to contact me about the project please email firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01380 715 892.
I’m really excited to announce that we are working with Public Health to set up a discussion group to share ideas, thoughts or experiences of cervical screening (smear tests).
I got together with Mike from Public Health and Hannah (Macmillan Engagement lead for Oxford and Wiltshire) about different ways that we can support each other. Mike spoke about discussion groups that he had set up to find out about people’s experiences of screening. Why they go, why they don’t or can’t go etc.

I thought about how good it was to shape and improve a service by listening to the thoughts and feelings of the people that experience it.
To show our support for Public Heath’s idea we will be hosting a discussion group on the 29th October 2018 (see below)
This discussion group is important as it allows women to confidentially share their thoughts about the cervical screening programme in a light hearted way. Feedback will be anonymous, and will be used to help shape and improve the future of this service, so please, come and have your say.
It is vital that we have insight into experiences and gain an understanding of the potential barriers to screening uptake to better inform and shape the services being delivered and to best suit the needs of the people accessing them.
Please get in touch and let us know if you’d like to attend; also if you’d like other discussion groups or conversations please get in touch and let me know…and stay tuned to hear more about this week’s bake off!
