Kerry McKenzie Wins UK Youth Young Person of the Year 2018
On 13th November 2018, UK Youth held their first ever UK Youth Awards and Showcase at the Central Metodist Hall, London. Our very own Kerry McKenzie was voted UK Youth Young Person of the year 2018 and was presented with her award by HRH Princess Anne.
Kerry was a participant of Youth Action Wiltshire‘s Wiltshire Young Carers Service as she supports her mum and has caring responsibilities for her older brother. The programme of respite activities provided Kerry with opportunities to have fun and meet other young carers. Kerry quickly began to shine and as she reached her later teenage years, she showed an interest in volunteering with YAW and a desire to help other young carers. She successfully enrolled on our Healthwatch and Ambassador programmes and on completion of both she became a YAW sessional Worker.
Kerry was last year awarded the Student of the Year award at college and now she starts a new chapter in her life at university. Kerry’s hard work and commitment to helping others was recognised by UK Youth at the awards night where she was named UK Youth Young Person of 2018.
This is huge achievement and something we are all so proud of Congratulations Kerry!
