Bold, a creative agency service from Community First was successful in a bid to produce a responsive WordPress website for the Building Bridges programme in time for the programme launch in October 2016.
The Building Bridges programme is a partnership of organisations who are working together to help overcome barriers to education and employment across Swindon and Wiltshire. The programme is jointly funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund.
The brief was to deliver a modern and accessible website which would act as a pathway for referrals into the programme, as well as offering up to date information about the programme itself including eligibility criteria, programme journey and partner information.
Website accessibility was an important focus for the brief as some potential participants may be learning disabled, have a physical disability or English as a second language. We worked closely with the team to define how people might interact with the website, ensuring the site was accessible across mobile, desktop and tablet devices as well as screen-readers. We also configured text and contrast changers for those with visual impairment and specialist text-to-voice and translation tools.
Having worked on the brand identity and print/digital materials for the programme, we knew that ensuring compliance with stringent Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund branding guidelines was an important factor. We created a custom ‘floating’ widget for the website which prominently and consistently displays the funder logo on each page and configured ‘hidden’ logos on tablet and mobile devices where the widget would not display.
It was important to the Building Bridges programme team, that the data collected as part of the referral process was transmitted and handled securely. We created custom branded forms which collect, store and securely transmit data from the referral forms with email notifications and tracking to monitor referrals.
Bold also developed a keyword strategy for a successful Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) campaign as part of the website development project which significantly improved the ranking for the website.
