Dorothy House Hospice Care – Community Engagement
Community First is working in partnership with the Community Council for Somerset and Dorothy House Hospice Care to undertake a needs analysis in the Mendip community of what support is felt to be needed locally in terms of life-limiting illness.
“A society where death is a part of life”
In partnership with Community First and the Community Council for Somerset, Dorothy House Hospice Care is undertaking a needs analysis within the Mendip community of what support is felt to be needed locally in terms of life-limiting illness: This might include support to both live well and die well and support with associated loss and bereavement.
For Dorothy House, growing their understanding of community need across their area is important if they are to realise their new Strategic Plan 2018-25 – Everyday, Everyone – and ensure that everyone in their area has access to outstanding palliative and end of life care.
Community First Wiltshire and the Community Council for Somerset are conducting a needs analysis in three communities in the Mendip area to understand peoples’ experiences and expectations of support around life-limiting illness.
Community First is an early adopter of the Community Organising techniques and uses this approach as an open and effective way to meet and talk to local people on matters that are important to them.
Our team will be visiting Frome, Coleford and Shepton Mallet in May and June 2018. We will talk to local people and find out what they have to say. We are also conducting an online survey which Mendip residents can complete.

As well as to-face community engagement, Mendip residents can also complete an online survey is part of the needs analysis. We hope the results will help us understand peoples’ experiences and expectations of support around life-limiting illness.
