Please note: We currently hold a large number of applications to the Landfill Communities Fund. Projects are welcome to send in Expressions of Interest but please bear in mind that we may not be in a position to apply for a grant for you for some time. Thank you.
The Landfill Communities Fund supports community, built heritage and environmental projects in the vicinity of landfill sites and / or landfill operator depots. The majority of Wiltshire & Swindon is covered by eligible catchment areas.
Projects need to be site-based capital projects, so portable or moveable equipment or running / staff costs are not normally eligible for LCF. Some projects, for example biodiversity work, may require more staff time than other projects, and so some flexibility is permitted depending on the specific project.
Applications can be for any amount, but most range from £2,000 to £15,000. Grants in excess of £40,000 are unusual.
There is no fixed requirement for the proportion of a project's total costs that can be applied for from the LCF through Community First. However, we would normally want to see evidence of other fundraising efforts, and appropriate contributions from an organisation's free reserves.
All projects must meet basic Entrust criteria in order to be considered for funding from the LCF.
If you wish to apply for a Landfill Communities Fund grant, your project will need to find 10% of the total grant applied for from a contributing Third Party (a source other than LCF money or the applicant). See document below on contributing third parties.
Examples of successful projects include:
Village Halls & Community Centres
Public recreation grounds / play areas
Community-run Sports & Leisure facilities
Restoration of public access to facilities
Cycle path & canal improvements
Community farm & community garden improvements
All funded projects must be accessible to the general public for a minimum of 104 days per year.
Applicants may be charities, community organisations, parish or town councils. Individuals and private companies are not normally eligible for LCF funding.
General appeals for non-specific works are not eligible for Landfill Communities Fund grants.
Community First Grants Team staff are here to help you, so please send an outline of your project, including the postcode of the project site, to firstname.lastname@example.org
