Macmillan Cancer Connections: Health Hub Sharing Event
What an exciting couple of weeks it has been!
This week we have put more plans in place for the Big Community Cancer Conversation that we are holding in January. I am really looking forward to bringing people together to network, to listen to each other and to show off the hard work that goes on in Wiltshire and Swindon to support people.
There is the opportunity to host a table at this event which will give people a small spot to promote their services and support. If you’d like to know more information; please just get in touch and we can chat more.
Since September 2018 I have been listening to people in communities and working with people to try and create small community solutions to issues that people may face when affected by cancer in Wiltshire.
On my travels I have developed some really close connections with a few people who didn’t just want to talk about experiences; they wanted to work together as a team; across the county to share issues and strengths and ensure that connecting services went beyond the town or villages they lived in.
It was my absolute pleasure to bring a couple of these people together this week at our Health Hub sharing event.
Stevie, Karen, Caroline and Maggie were able to discuss their own projects and, also share any similar challenges they might face. They have decided to stay in touch through group events and email with the view that if they don’t know how to help someone outside of their area; they can have a friendly trusted person to link up to that can help.
They reflected on how they could potentially be of use to the steering group that govern the Cancer Connections project; by being able to represent their community’s voice. I’m excited to work more with these individuals; who have worked closely with me to not only inform me; but support me in a role that can occasionally be isolated itself. I would like to say a tremendous thank you to the people that share their stories and dreams with me; you inspire me and continue to make the project what it should be… Community led.
If you would like to know more; or would like to join up with these amazing People then please email me at

Until next time
