by | Jun 8, 2016 | Community Development, News

The 1,660 volunteers supporting the 45 Link Schemes across Wiltshire are amazing!

Between them they travelled an astounding 941,008 miles during 2015 – equating to 3,619 miles a day – making vital trips, to ensure that vulnerable residents can reach essential services and facilities, such as crucial medical appointments, getting food shopping and meeting friends.

But it’s not just about the driving – the Link Scheme volunteers helped with 52,981 tasks and journeys – an incredible average of 203 per day. The hours worked by volunteers calculates a notable economic value of £1,441,525 – a fantastic contribution to Wiltshire.

A volunteer can often help with:-

  • Providing transport to – collect prescriptions, change library books, appointments and shopping
  • Practical tasks – small jobs in the house and garden, walking the dog and feeding the cat!
  • Reducing social isolation for those who cannot get out and about easily – calling in for a chat, reading to clients and taking a client for a walk

You too could make a big impact supporting Wiltshire’s communities. Become part of this amazing volunteer network – volunteer with your local Link Scheme!

Volunteering with Link is flexible, it doesn’t matter if you only have a little or a lot of time to give, if you are young or old, you can help someone in your local village or town get out and about or make their day by stopping for a chat and helping them with a small task.

These 2015 figures come from the audit undertaken by the Community First Link Project in early 2016 and are based on a five day week, 52 weeks of the year.
