Macmillan Cancer Connections: Alex reflects on May 2020 and moving forward
In a world where we now work from our homes; I am constantly striving to continue to bring people together however possible. Last month we launched online drop-in sessions for people to feel more connected. Not without its challenges we now seem to be flying forward and allowing people to continue to share experiences and make plans for the future.
Macmillan Cancer Connections has brought together over 30 people through digital platform meet ups over the past month. Salisbury continue drop-ins through Zoom, The Wiltshire-Wide group has come together online and we even saw people there that we hadn’t seen at previous meetings. I have facilitated meetings for Swindon Community Organisers and hosted steering group meetings for local groups around the county.
The Wiltshire-wide drop in has been a great platform for people to share tips on supporting people at this time. We have shared feelings, tips, projects, photos and tears; I have loved watching people celebrate VE Day, watching the progress of people’s plants grow and seeing how people are keeping their sourdough starters alive!
The next step will be to run some bitesized training sessions for groups; tested in June and rolled out around July time… The world is completely different now; but it is wonderful to see people adapting to make sure we are still reaching the people that need it.Â
